Classic German Meat Patties (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Meat & Basics

01 - 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or beef-pork mix)
02 - 1 small onion, finely chopped
03 - 1 clove garlic, minced
04 - 1 egg

→ Breading

05 - 1 slice stale white bread
06 - 1/4 cup milk

→ Seasonings

07 - 1 tsp Dijon or yellow mustard
08 - 1 tsp salt
09 - 1/2 tsp black pepper
10 - 1/2 tsp paprika
11 - 1/2 tsp ground marjoram (optional)
12 - 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

→ For Cooking

13 - 2 tbsp oil or butter

# Instructions:

01 - Soak the stale bread slice in milk for 5 minutes. Squeeze out excess milk and crumble into small pieces.
02 - In a large bowl, combine ground meat, soaked bread, onion, garlic, egg, mustard, and all seasonings. Mix until just combined - don't overmix or patties will be tough.
03 - Divide mixture into 4-6 portions. Shape each into an oval patty about 1/2-inch thick.
04 - Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry patties 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through (160°F/71°C internal temperature).

# Notes:

01 - For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or cayenne pepper
02 - Leftovers make great cold sandwiches with mustard or pickles
03 - Can be baked at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes, flipping halfway
