Thoroughly butter one side of each slice of rye bread and set aside.

Mix ground beef with pepper, salt, and onion powder until well combined. Shape into three patties that match the shape of your bread.

Cook patties in a skillet over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes per side. Reduce heat to low and cook about 5 more minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) with no pink remaining.

While patties cook, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, bacon bits, relish, and sugar in a small bowl. Stir until well blended.

In a second skillet over medium-low heat, place bread butter-side down. Layer with two slices of cheddar, a cooked patty, and two slices of Provolone. Spread sauce on the unbuttered side of another bread slice and place it sauce-side down on top.
